ADVENTURES > Watch an Artist Die
MY PAYPAL PAGE, FOR ONE-TIME SUPPORT
MY PATREON PAGE, FOR REPEATED SUPPORT
PLACE AND ESTIMATED DATE OF DEPARTURE:
La Chocolatera, Ecuador. 2030.
APPROXIMATE DISTANCE TO WALK:
9,000 km.
ESTIMATED NUMBER OF KM WALKED EACH DAY:
from 5 to 10 km.
TIME NEEDED TO COMPLETE THIS TREK:
from 3 to 4 years.
THE GOALS:
- to travel alone and exclusively on foot (no canoe, except for crossing rivers) from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Coast through the wildest areas of the Amazon jungle, pursuing an æsthetical and philosophical aim (no ecological, philanthropic, scientific or athletic purpose, here);
- to discover Paititi's location ("legendary" Inca lost city) — or, at least, try to find it.
A FEW REASONS:
- to celebrate the flesh I'm made of;
- to obtain the legitimacy I don't yet have;
- to finally be able to love myself;
- to prepare my death — i.e., to offer myself a not so bitter epilog.
REMARKS:
- I like supermarkets, artificial light, social events, etc.; the flow of city traffic relaxes me as much as the one of a mountain stream;
- unlike Richard Long and Hamish Fulton, nature doesn't have a central place in my art. I use harshness of nature as a tool like any other to reach extreme psychic states;
- during this expedition, my days will be so repetitive that despite the vastness of my playground and a constant mobility, this jungle will quickly become for me as a cramped prison, and, the homogeneous luxuriance of its vegetation, as a desert without horizon;
- I'm going to begin this expedition as others leave to make the jihad;
- I'm going to walk accompanied by mental projections of many friends and acquaintances of mine — people that I will summon to my liking for some speculative dialogues;
- I am attentive to this belief, among Khanty people (Ugric people of which my mother descended from), who asserts that paradise is accessible only to the souls of those who have died a violent death; the souls of those who died in a mild way being forced to serve a severe god residing underground.
YOUR GIFTS WILL:
- contribute to fixing my injured body;
- contribute to fixing my broken gear;
- contribute to the purchase and the delivery of new gear;
- contribute to mailing to a safe place the art made along the way;
- contribute to offer me the luxury I need to comfort myself during the weeks of break in stage cities along the way.
